Well this (seen it before) was to be funny (they did it before with some other console[s]), the first guy(s) were just retards thinking that people should only play the Xbox360. _________________ AKA PC Tman

I've now finished resistance, it was a great game, but idk if it's worth spending 600 for the system right now, I think if I could do it again, I'd save $ and get the 360, all the good games look like they'll be ported there anyway. Haven't started COD3 yet, so we'll see what that has to offer. _________________

Mmmm Gears of War is very yummy. I'm playing through the campaign on Casual with Drew and also on Hardcore with Albert. Drew and I are tearing through it and its a blast mutulating the enemies. At the same time, Albert and I are moving steadily, despite dying lots... its tough (can't wait to try insane!). Soon we should do some multiplayer online, which I'm sure will be neat.
Neat/weird PS3 games on 360....
Funny that Blu Ray reads slower, though I doubt its too too significant.... but what do I know?
and >.< pwnt. Sony does some really stupid shit sometimes. _________________ AKA PC Tman

I still stand by my original decision that when I have spare money enough to get away with it, I'll buy all three systems. I'll probably get the Wii next, unless the 360 drops down in price first (doubtful). Admittedly, I too am annoyed w/ the lackluster launch of the PS3, though this is due in large part to Sony's understandably overzealous pandering to the mass consumer (those who can't afford PS3s just yet) by continuing to support the PS2 even moreso than the PSX after the PS2 launch. Well, I'm mainly looking forward to the first HDD loader for the PS3 soz I can download all my games like someone I know... in fact, I think he's on this forum. _________________ Your writing hurts my eyes. I find it halarious that the Wii is completely sold out everywhere... STILL. All the while the PS3 is overstocked, ROFL. _________________ AKA PC Tman

Not everyone has the mad cash-money to roll like Chad and I. I just had chrome dollar-sign spinners installed on my Resistance disc _________________ Your writing hurts my eyes. It's like the text came off the page and sexually assaulted my eye sockets. |

Also, for what it's worth, Metal Gear Solid 4 is going to be coming out on the PS3 soon. Of course, three months from now they'll release a better version with more features for only the 360 and Wii - Metal Gear Solid 4: Sadomasochism. _________________ Your writing hurts my eyes. so I decided I like the PS3, as a Blu Ray player it's pretty damn good and is the only system w/ HDMI (v1.3 no less) and has quite a bit of ability as an entertainment PC. Connect it to the tv, has a 60 gb hd, can browse the web, accepts inputs from iPods, external HDs, etc. and can play music & movies. So as a game system, XB360>PS3 as it stands right now. But as a lifestyle device, PS3 is pretty hard to beat. That's it, cheers! _________________

and while this debate will go on for well over a year, here's some number-crunching figures (from teh wicki):
For example, the Xbox 360 has been announced as having total floating point performance of around one TFLOPS, while the PlayStation 3 has been announced as having a theoretical 2.18 TFLOPS. By comparison, a common AMD A64 or Intel Pentium 4 general-purpose PC would have a FLOPS rating of around ten GFLOPS, if the performance of its CPU alone was considered. The 1 TFLOPS for the Xbox 360 or 2 TFLOPS for the Playstation 3 ratings that were sometimes mentioned regarding the consoles would even appear to class them as supercomputers
a teraflop is 1x10^14 floating point operations per second, so the PS3 has 2.18 times that.
That's ridiculous, as expensive as the PS3 is, my dad's 12k computer comes in at:
64-bit Intel Xeon processors can express the extreme precision needed for floating-point mathematics and to express integers up to 18 billion billion.
the dual-core, dual-processor system and deliver maximum processor bandwidth of up to 21.3 GB/s.
this means it's (18x10^9)*(18x10^9)=324x10^18 FLOP
to get it in FLOPS (Floating point ops per second) you have to divide by the max speed:
(324x10^12)/(21.3x10^9)=15.2x10^9 FLOPS this translates into 15GFLOP
(one important note is that the above doesn't take into account the graphics card but that's a lot more difficult to do)
so in sum:
XB360=$400 w/ 1x10^12 FLOPS
PS3=$600 w/ 2.18x10^12 FLOPS (and by the way if you were to look at pure computational power, 2x power for 1.5x $ isn't bad)
Mac Pro=$11,000 w/ 15x10^9 FLOPS
p.s. I'm really bored and don't feel like programming... _________________

Even though the PS3 has 2 TFLOPS, it is not fully using all of it.

Yeah those values are pretty much null on the PCs since it doesn't include the video card, which does high amounts of FPUs and Vector calculations if I remember right. _________________ AKA PC Tman

oh I totally agree, in fact it probably never will and thus we find ourself at the crux of modern computing. The only way to get "faster" computers at this point is to tack on multiple processors operating at slower speeds than their predecessors but divying up the CPU workload. That's all well-and-good but the software has to be developed and written for this, sending certain segments of code to one processor (in the case of the PS3, the workoad must be devied up 7 TIMES) anyone with programming knowledge knows it's hard to program for one chip, imagine having to segment your thinking in the future for flow-control of the info of the 7 processors working together. It probably won't happen ever in a $600 video game console. _________________
